Executive Summary

The Abu Huraira Youth Committee meets every Wednesdays after Isha prayer. In the meeting, youth issues are discussed. Progress reports of ongoing activities and plans for future ones are also discussed. Duties are assigned to all as appropriate. Every brother’s idea and input is highly encouraged.

Mission Statement

The Youth Committee mandate is to strive to create an environment conducive to Islamic learning and character and leadership skills development. It enables the Muslim Youth to develop, through knowledge and practice, a comprehensive understanding of Islam, and to prepare them to be at the forefront in the development of their communities.

Objectives

  1. To provide the youth of the Masjid and the surrounding area with an organization that will tend to their Islamic educational needs.
  2. Offer viable Islamic alternatives to many of our society’s prevailing problems affecting the Youths
  3. Preserve the Islamic identity of our youth.
  4. Provide them with an Islamic environment to socialize with other Muslim youths and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among them.
  5. Empower the Islamic values among the youth and attach them to the Islamic teachings.
  6. Train our youth to develop and improve their leadership and Da’wah skills.
  7. To cooperate and co-ordinate plans with other Masajids and Islamic associations, in order to achieve the aims and objectives of the Youth Committee.

Programs:

Some of the programs include:
  • Halaqa: A weekly study circle offered by our resident Imam, for brothers and sisters.
  • Sleepover: Usually a monthly program where all the participants spend the entire night at the Masjid. This helps develop true brotherhood
  • Summer Camps: They allow for interaction in an open and free atmosphere, thus strengthening the ties of relationships and love for the sake of Allah. They also train participants on patience, courage, tolerance, endurance, discipline and forbearance over a long period of time.
  • Workshops/Seminars: Offers a broad range of seminars and workshops to empower youth with full understanding of relevant themes/concepts and mastership of important skills.
  • Conferences/Conventions: These are large gatherings where prominent leaders and speakers translate the conclusions of their diligent researches and studies into practical solutions and guidelines for action plans. They usually focus on a particular theme, and provide a unique opportunity for the development and acquirement of new ideas.
